A Thank You "Case Study"

Hand crafted for a client who's design partnership has spanned over 18 years. REL Acoustics has been a passionate and dedicated client - it was about time that I created a unique "Case Study" for their brand. The following explores logo treatments and off the wall ideas that have been thought about, but never implemented into any of the REL subwoofer product lines that are currently on the market.

In 2009, I started "Case Study Acoustics" that explored recycled sound and gave new life to forgotten items from the past. All created cases used old/broken bookshelf speakers, wood paneled vintage suitcases, AC or battery pwr options, led treatments, bi- chambered enclosures (separating L and R channels), 5 degree outward cambered drivers for non-linear stereo sound, custom luggage tags, and most importantly were designed with care and handmade with impeccable craftsmanship.

My cases are not car speakers screwed onto a suitcase and called a speaker like other creators that have tried to duplicate. They are much more...

What is going on in and around this REL Case Study:

Alternative REL corporate color study - RED verses BLUE.

Yes - the drivers have a slight paint job, but we are not winning audio awards for suitcase speakers.

A Speakon was added for use with REL Subwoofers "High Level Input" - allowing all REL products to be plugged directed into this case.

There are a handful of cast crowns added around - power toggle - led ON treatment - front logo - fabric travel/message tag.

Aged bronze/brass material finish explored.

Features a custom voice prompt “Bluetooth is ready to pair” at pwr ON.

The main drivers have a 5 degree camber to the left and right to project sound away from center. Also, added internally is a dividing baffle that separates the 2 channels. As for the porting on this enclosure - I HAVE ENGINEERED A UNIQUE FEATURE, BY USING A SUITCASE, NO PORTING IS NECESSARY BECAUSE AIR IS ALLOWED TO LEAK FROM EVERYWHERE.

REL travel sticker added to the rear.

Speakon added for use with a REL Subwoofer - High Level Input.

Acrylic laser cut stacked logo, on the rear, with led treatment.

Braided power cord.

I tried to add a few design features that REL could possibly use in the future, a few design features to think about, and a few design features that are probably not corporate standard. Thank You for your 18 years of continued business REL.
