Lantern Clock Model 21

Updated: Jun 3

24 radial arms create a barrel profile that projects from the wall. With longer arms, shadows extend out more than any clock in the lantern series. Stacked and contrasting face materials appear suspended as intricate hour arms clench this piece together. Layered birch, patinaed dark edges, aquamarine accents and sweeping lines creates a one of a kind art piece that will stand out in any mid century dwelling. Two hands - terminating in a circle and tinted bar - indicate the time – a neutral second has a constant sweep. The laser cut on the edges of each part create a dark earth tone patina that contrasts nicely with the light baltic birch plywood front and rear faces. This is a authentic handmade clock that is manufactured and assembled by the Artisian designer. Designed and crafted in Huntington Beach by Ryan Redenbaugh.

My inspiration for the lantern series of clocks was a papercraft lantern art project from any child's schooling.

A simple and pure clock is a quintessential modernist accessory. Its playful composition expands an everyday item in a three dimensional direction yet keeping its bare essence, challenging what we think it could and should look like.

Ideation example exploring shape options

Layers of alternating color, finishes, and textures give a levitating appearance with the front face being pushed forward from the mounting surface.
