I loved this project. Have you heard of a Digital IMD? It is a graphic that is created digitally, there are no minimum quantity requirements, nor limited graphics and color possibilities. Printing one is the same price per part as printing 1,000,000. Samples of every decoration variation can be provided, identical to production grade, on film rather than paper proofs, and new images are printed on film in hours. This enables a viable design-testing opportunity, and a “time-to-market” advantage that is not achievable any other way.
Now back to this project. WD was coming out with a new My Passport design in early 2017 and this project was proposed in early 2016. We needed something new, something for marketing and PR to talk about, something small scale and something that was cost friendly. What I found was "End Of Life" tools in one of our manufacturing facilities that still had 500K parts left on them. WD have portable hdd bases and IMD tops just waiting to be destroyed.
What if we could produce a limited edition hdd to fill the 1 year gap before the new line launches? This is what I proposed?
