This post follows the development of multiple housings for Pi and a HDD making them into a single assembly that is to be marketed for education. Multiple orientations were explored leading to 3 solid ideas that are all in production.

Concept rendering that is in production now. A stand alone design or accepts nesting of the Offical Pi House.

Phase I

This initial project was to explore how to integrate the Official Raspberry Pi House with a HDD. All above concepts had a bare HDD attaching to a rubber tray that is able to slide in and out of the base. What this led to was just using an existing WD HDD bucket and engineering a new top that looks pleasing as a stand alone product, but is able to accept the Pi House.

Engineering file - manufactured at a low cost modeling house overseas

Below are the production parts

Phase II - Explore a new range of options

Phase III - Design Refinement

Working Prototype

Phase IV

Additional Concept specific for education. Incorporates a removable top, a storage bin, access to GPIO pins, and small breadboard. Same as other exploration - adds HDD and Raspberry Pi in one housing.

ABOUT RYAN

Being a Designer, I believe in exploring ideas from scratch – “from cardboard” if necessary. The mistakes made and thus the lessons learned from the rough first tries only builds knowledge from these trial and errors. I believe and thrive in the live / learn by doing process.
