How do you create a remote control that sits on a surgical tray and is under a surgical drape yet is still easily controlled by a surgeon?

AREAS/DETAILS OF IMPORTANCE - from design brief after initial meeting with Wavetec

Remote Features

-Needs to remain stationary while on smooth metal or plastic surgical tray

-Needs to be locatable (from above) while under surgical drape

-User needs to easily locate remotes navigation pad while under surgical drape

-Remote acts as a mouse

-Needs L-click push button (can be located anywhere)

Surgical Tray Drape

-Remote is to be placed/attached to standard surgical trays (Alcon, Bausch and Lomb ect.) with

surgical drape being place over remote

-User will not physically touch remote during surgery meaning drape will always exist between

user and remote

-Keep as thin as possible but still being user friendly

Status of the Remote: During the engineering and final refinement of the ORA remote, Alcon announced the completion of the acquisition of WaveTec Vision, the manufacturer of the ORA intraoperative guidance system. The ORA system will now be integrated into the Cataract Refractive Suite by Alcon. All development stopped, but I have hopeful that Alcon and the aquired WaveTec employees will continue on this project.
